En este trabajo intentaré explicar por qué las virtudes cívicas constituyen una condición necesaria para la estabilidad de las instituciones en un Estado liberal. Sin embargo, este punto pone en entredicho algunas de las coordenadas de la topografía moral de Rawls. Por esta razón, presentaré una interpretación de las últimas obras de Rawls que pueda tener en cuenta el papel de las virtudes cívicas en el fortalecimiento de las instituciones en una comunidad “políticoliberal”. Finalmente, expondré por qué una cierta versión del perfeccionismo liberal es coherente con la doctrina rawlsiana y puede a la vez tomar en serio el papel de las virtudes cívicas sin constituir una forma de paternalismo…

Given the significance of planning public argumentation, that is ‘reasoning in public’, in ways in which it is possible to recognize the diversity of perspectives and the complexity of many issues faced, this paper faces the question of how to deal with this issue in political and social contexts where the notion of (substantial) democracy faces several obstacles in its way. Due to our context-based research work field (and place where we live), we experienced significant difficulties in applying normative principles which are nurtured by promises on behalf of deliberative democracy. The essay proposes a democratic interpretation about the social space. It approaches it from an hermeneutics point of view linked to the paradigm of intersubjectivity (taking into account authors such as: Apel, Habermas, Honneth, Taylor, etc.). Therefore, it exploits the “ theory of recognition” both on a practical level, both theoretically. Against this background "the public reason" has an epistemological dominant role.
